Kelly Connor is the author of the ground-breaking book “To Cause A Death,” which has received much acclaim in the British media.
Considering the serious nature of the book’s content, Kelly expressed a desire to keep the design friendly yet professional - an effect I acheived with the clean white, off-white and crimson colour scheme along with a simple navigation bar.
Since Kelly also wanted to sell copies of the book via the site using her Paypal account, we endeavoured to include as much information about the book as possible. The aim was to allow a customer browsing the site to garner as much information as if they had picked up the book in a bookstore. To this end we included book reviews, links to interviews and an extensive sample chapter.
Navigation
Extendability was a key requirement on the site - which ultimately meant that the navigation couldn’t be limiting in any way. To acheive this without wasting too much space, I settled apon a horizontal navigation bar with relatively simple text links. In fact, during the design phase I decided to maxmise on this simplicity of the navigation bar by leaving it clean and white.
Call To Action Buttons
Kelly also required clear guidance for visitors wishing to purchase or read a sample of her book. For this reason, I created two simple “call to action” buttons that would sit on the right of the page. These buttons would hopefully entice visitors to click them, resulting in converting visits to sales.
